When you think of an Electrician, lights and wires and stuff like that probably pop into your head. Well that's not all it is. There's much more that comes with being an Electrician. Travis Mcleod is an Electrician. He works at Gordons Electric in Pendleton Oregon and has for the past 16 years. I sat down and talked to Travis about his job for awhile and he told me all about it and answered all of my questions.
Travis said that he was in college for four years. During those four years he had to take several classes including, math, a theory class, and some code courses where he learned electrical codes. And now he's making $85,000 a year and it changes every year depending on where you're working. Travis explained to me that he chose to be an electrician because he had an interest in how things worked, like computers and things like that. He also liked to take things apart. Another reason that he became an electrician is that he got paid while in college and it was on the job training.
Travis told me that his favorite part about his job is that there's a variety and he's always doing something different. I then asked him if there was a part about his job that he didn't enjoy he said that he doesn't like that he travels so much, Travis told me this part was hard because he is away from family. I also asked him what the hardest part about his job is,and his response was that being outside in different climates makes it hard. He then went on to tell me what he does while at work. He said that he mostly coordinates and organizes large jobs. Before I talked to Travis I didn't know that much about electricians and what they did. But now I know a little bit about it. I now know that it's not just about lights and wires and other things that you might think.
