Following In The Footsteps

Everybody has activities they want to do before they kick the bucket and the list of those activities is called a bucket list. Most people, including me, have skydiving and traveling the world on their bucket list, but one in particular is climbing Devil's Tower. About 35 years ago my grandfather climbed it with two of my uncles. Therefore, I would like to climb it as well.

Devil's tower is in Wyoming  and stands at 867 feet tall from the base to the summit. It is an igneous intrusion that formed 50 to 60 million years ago. The summit can only be reached by climbing up one of the hundreds of routes. You have to reach the summit and back in one day because there is no overnight camping. The first people to climb up Devil's tower were William Rogers and Willard Ripley; they reached the summit on July 4, 1893 by using a ladder which they staked into the vertical rock.

So, I am planning on climbing this with my older brother Grayson in about ten to twenty years. We will have to save a lot more money, about 1000 dollars or so, for more gear to have enough to be able to reach the summit. By climbing this huge rock it would allow me to check off another item on my bucket list.
