Football Star

Trent Soey is a fourteen year old Sunridge Middle School student who plays on the football A team. He plays many positions such as punt return, strong safety and kick off, but his favorite and star position quarterback. In all the chaos that happens in the five to ten seconds that are the average play his is to either hand of, run or pass the football to score a touchdown. Scoring a touchdown makes him feel very confident which is why scoring a touchdown is his favorite part about practice.

Although there are many plays to score a touchdown his favorite play is a Tray Right 389 which is a hail mary to Gabe Umbarger. His best game was against Baker city when he threw three touchdowns. In all the team had about two hundred rushing yards and about one hundred fifty passing yards. He believes they did so well because they had a longer practice then the other middle school teams.

On top of that he feels they could be even better if they had a longer practice which is what he would change if he was the coach. But he believes that overall his team was a very tough and hard team to beat. He said that he had a couple of messups himself, but that he thinks that overall he too did very well this season. He plans on playing through High school and then as long as he can. Overall Trent Sorey is a great football player is going to get even better.

Funfetti Cookies

I chose to do this recipe because these are my favorite cookies and I make them a lot. They are really good and remind of Valentine's Day because you can decorate them how you want. I always use pink frosting when I make these cookies so it seemed perfect.

In the end they turned out to be great and the recipe worked out.

Ingredients

• Pillsbury Funfetti Cake Mix
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• 2 eggs
• Frosting

STEPS:

1. Get all of the ingredients you will need and heat the oven to 375 degrees F

2. Mix the eggs, vegetable oil, and cake mix in a large mixing bowl

3. Make the cookie dough into one inch balls and place them two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet

4. Bake them in the oven for about 10 minutes, but make sure to check them occasionally

5. Place the cookies on a cooling rack and then frost them and decorate them how you want to

Sunridge Scores Their First Win

On Thursday, January 22nd, Sunridge Middle School’s seventh grade girls “A” team played a home basketball game against Lagrande. The winning score of 34 to 29 left the whole team feeling triumphant. With the Bucks first game going so successfully, it left the coaches and players feeling great about the upcoming season. Everyone was in a great mood after the win including the parents, students, and other people in the audience. Each player played very hard and had some great moments.

One of the greatest plays was when Lark McDonald, a starting player, stole the ball from Lagrande and took it down the court and made a layup, scoring two points for Pendleton. The crowd cheered for her and following her heroic steel, another player, Sami Spriet, scored a three pointer. Another outstanding play took place in the second quarter when the team screened, passed, drove, and shot perfectly. Although each player had their moments, the bucks teamwork really payed off in the game.

Pendleton has some amazing athletes and skilled basketball players, but two that really stood out in the game against Lagrande were Carissa Cooley, who plays point guard, and Lauren Galloway, who plays wing. Both seventh graders excel in Basketball as well as Softball and Volleyball. They played excellent and worked hard to get the win. When I asked Lauren how it felt to win their first game, she replied by explaining it felt great to win their first basketball game and now, she is excited to see how they do in the future and is hoping for a successful season to come. Next I asked Carissa, you served as a type of leader on the team, what was it like on the court from your perspective? She answered by saying, when we are playing, it is really fun and exciting. It is great when a play we have been practicing a lot works correctly. It makes the team feel like our hard work has paid off. Overall, the seventh grade "A" team did very well in the game against Lagrande.e and got a good look at what the season could be like.

A Kid With A Dream

First I will tell you a little bit about a very athletic and talented boy. His name is Cam Sandford, first I asked him to tell me a little bit about his self. He is 14 years old and he likes to play sport, his all time favorite athlete is Larry Fitzgerald. Larry plays Wide receiver for the Arizona cardinals an NFL team.  This is his all time favorite player because he has watched him since he was little and he plays his position in football.  Baseball is his favorite sport. It is his favorite sport because he loves to play the sport and he can just leave everything behind and just play. He plays Football, Basketball, and Baseball because he has something to do after school and to be entertained.  

Next Cam has some future goals in his life they are to go to Oregon State University (OSU) for baseball after he is done with college he wants to play in the Big Leagues. He will accomplish these goals by working hard at practices and working hard in school. He also said he would accomplish his goals because he is already working hard in practice and school.

Lastly he had some pros and cons about the team. One pro about the team was that they worked together as a team. One con is that if you would miss a game winning shot they would be mad at you. Then I had asked him if you were the coach what would you do different? He told me that he would do nothing because our coach Mr. Schmidt was a great coach. I interviewed Cam because I want to get to know him a little more and

Girls basketball Ladybucks v.s Sandstone

The star players were from the 7th grade A team coached by Mr.Blanc. There was only two star players for this game the first one was #41 Jade Davidson when she was out on the court she was stealing balls blocking shots and making shots and she was In for the most of the game,The second star player for this game was # 13 Carissa Cooley she was the main point guard and run It down the court all the time and made good passes to her teammates.The most exciting part of the game was when the lady bucks were winning by 18 points.At the end of the fouth quarter There was 15 seconds left sandstone had the ball they went for a three and missed and its all over people The lady bucks had won 28-8. I really liked the game and I will go and watch, the next one I'm going to watch Is on Feburary.24,At 4:30 here at Sunridge Middle School.They are a good team so go watch them.

The Dancer

Dance, for Giliana Adams, isn't just a hobby, it’s a commitment. She’s been doing dance for eleven years now, a feat most cannot achieve. She has dance four times a week, so if you’re wondering if dance ever collides with school, it does. Dance has taught Giliana teamwork, determination, friendship, and to never give up. She’s done four solos, jazz, ballet, lyrical/jazz, and lyrical. This year’s solo is lyrical to the song “Not About Angels” by Birdy.

Once Giliana graduates high school, she wishes to try out for different things like So You Think You Can Dance and the dance team for Gonzaga, a university located in Spokane, Washington. At Gonzaga, she wishes to take dance classes there and get a degree in nursing, due to the fact that for a future career, she either wants to be a nurse or a dance teacher. The Gonzaga webpage for their department of nursing says, “The demand for health care professionals is expected to reach a critical need within the next decade. Nurses with advanced degrees are in great demand as the complexity in the health care system increases.”

For Giliana, the best part of dance is having a second family, and knowing that second family has your back no matter what. Giliana’s coach, Debby, describes her “Giliana is gentle and kind spirited and I love that about her. Giliana is respectful and kind to all people. Giliana brings stability, determination and friendship to her team.” One can tell Giliana is going to be dancing for an incredibly long time. If you’ve ever seen her dance, you know that she moves from her heart.  “When I dance, I feel like me. I can finally be myself without having to change to be someone different just to fit in with a certain group or act differently. The kind of person I feel I am is truly me.” With big dreams in her heart, Giliana will continue to dance as long as she can.

Traveling Around The World

                 For my bucket list I want to travel its the single best activity that exposes you to new cultures, move out of your comfort zone, allows you to meet new people, and experience the wonders of the world. I love traveling so this is most definitely something I want to do.I want to travel to the tourist  sites in the more popular countries. Some of the places I want to travel to is Paris France to see the Eiffel Tower and the Louver Pyramid, and  Hawaii I want to go to Hawaii so that I can see the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park,Poipu Beach Park and the Sea Life Park etc; I will accomplish this by going to college so that I will have a degree in that field. Then once im done with college I will be getting a successful job and save up all the money I earn for traveling.Traveling around the world will cost me about $2500 – $3500 just for a round trip for flying per person.

 If you haven't heard about the term “ bucket list ”, it is a list of all the goals you want to achieve,dreams you want to fulfill and life experiences you desire to experience before you die. Bucket lists can be from the smallest things you want to do like living on your own to the biggest and adventurous things like traveling around the world or meeting famous people.Making a bucket list will cost you nothing to make up but it all depends what's on your list that is going to cost you money. Its just planning ahead all the highlights you want for your whole life.

        It will be a bonus for me to travel because at the same time I will be doing a job that I love doing before I travel. I wont be traveling till older maybe in my mid 40’s so that all that time of work will pay off for some amazing adventures to come.I will also be flying everywhere I travel then I will get a car to rent there so that I can see all the spectacular things that are in that country. When I travel I want to travel with my closest friends but they will need to figure out their own way to come with me.The worst times to be traveling is around the holidays so I would go travel before then.

   This is just one major thing I have on my bucket list that I have wanted to do for a very long time. I want to travel because you get to experience new things , and  there's things there that I would love to see in person than just photos of it you don't get the same excitement then being there to see it with your own eyes.This is why I cant wait to travel when im older then I can scratch that one off the bucket list.

We All Have A Dream

Dancers sweat and the smell of hairspray was all that we were breathing that day mixed in with glitter. There was no escaping without coughing glitter. After all the dancers were in the gym at Milwaukee High School they started with the national anthem. They introduced the judges sitting in the crowsnest up above the set of bleachers. Pendleton had 5 teams competing that cold Saturday afternoon.

The first team was the mini’s. The group was called “My Boyfriends Back”. They were so cute. The next team was a group called “Surf Crazy”. Then came “Topsy Turvy” and “Rock-n-roll mix”.Then finally my team “I Have a Dream”. Our dance is a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.  It features "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics and parts of Martin Luther King Jr's famous speech "I Have a Dream".

I feel that the jitters were contagious that day. Everyone was in a good mood after the performance.  We sat patiently in the bleachers while other teams performed.  After they got through the rest of the teams they had a drill down. In a drill down they call a series of commands like right face, left face, about face, half right, half left faces, parade rest, hand salute,  attention or atten hut, double arm dress, dress right or left, ready front, mark time March and ect. This is commonly used in the military to call on drill teams. After all of the groups had gone through drill down they had all of the kids come sit in a circle behind the hosting team. The head coach Ryan Sanford and assistant coach Johnathan Maulding announced "My Boyfriend's Back" had won 2nd place. That was the team my little sister was on.

They got to the Junior Large Category and announced all of the superstar awards. “From I Have a Dream, Ashlyn Roberts” Ryan announced. At first I looked in a daze and then I stood up and got my award. The icing on the cake was when we won first place overall in our division. What I had learned is that if you invest time into your team your team will support you and be a mini family. I just want to say congrats I have a dream in your win and I love all of you on our team you are like a family to me!

Dear Winchester,

Naptime!

I love you! Despite the fact that you sit on me when I’m sleeping, you get hair on everything, eat anything edible I leave unattended, and run around the house meowing at the top of your lungs when you’re bored (but sometimes it’s fun to trip you when you do that). So why do I love you then?

My partner in crime

First of all, I remember when my family and I found you. It was some time in August, 2013. We were walking next to Winchester Lake, Idaho when we heard something that sounded like a baby bird squawking. Turns out it was you, abandoned by an someone that had been staying there at Winchester State Park earlier that week. We took you with us back to our trailer and fed you trout. Since dad loves orange cats, there was no debate on whether or not we should keep you.

Also, I love cuddling with you. Sometimes Jenni and I fight over you and sometimes I have to hold you hostage with a ransom from her. I think you’re the coolest cat in the cave and I know you think that too. I can tell by the way you glare at people when they come over. It’s hilarious when you’re drinking from the toilet and almost fall in.

Another thing I remember is Christmas 2014 when you got your presents. One of your presents was an electric mouse that would whirl around in a circle making squeaking noises. It scared you so much that you ran away from it to under the pews. You loved your other present though, the colorful jingle bells that you chased all around the house. So cute!

As you can see, I don’t love you because one specific reason. I love you because you meow at me when I come home from school or swimming. I love you because your orange fur and green eyes are the most gorgeous things in the whole entire world. I love you because you are one of my favorite parts of my life. I love you because you’re the cat every girl wants, but you’re mine.
