“Hey, did you do your homework?” your mom asks. “Uh, I’ll do it later.” you
reply with every intention to do it later, but you just keep putting it
off. This act is called procrastination. Procrastination doesn’t seem
like a big problem, but it is mostly an issue in schools.
Procrastination is a big issue in schools because students think they
can just do their homework later. There is a later up to a point. When
there is no more later, students don’t have their work done, resulting
in a late or even missing assignment. Procrastination is also an issue
because, if you put off your homework for a long time, it creates
habits.
If you procrastinate in the future in high school and college
and in your future occupation, your life will be very stressful. Say
your boss at your future job asks you to do something for them. You will
accept, thinking you will do the job later and it never gets done. You
will be labeled as an unreliable employee, and, if you keep it up, you
will soon be fired. So, if you start your homework when you get home
from school, you will finish it in the same amount of time it would have
taken you to do it later, you won’t have a guilty conscience for the
rest of the day, and once it’s done, it is out of your mind. You don’t
have to worry about it anymore. To help you break the habit, you can set
small goals to get things done earlier. Then you can start setting
larger goals, and before you know it, you will have a much less
stressful life. So stop procrastinating. Be on your way to a better,
more organized, and prioritized life.
