How to Play the Infield

Have you ever been in a position on where you don’t know where you
should be? Well here are a few softball tips! In games while facing a batter always
get in your fielding position after pitching. For playing first base try to have a foot
on the base when you receive the ball. This means the runner is out, if the runner
is not already there. To play second base you usually play about half way in
between first and second. It’s better to field like this because if the batter bunts,
you have to cover first! You will more than likely receive a throw. If the batter
hits the ball, run to second, even if there is someone running to second or not.
Sometimes the catcher makes a bad throw to the pitcher, so you will need to back
up the pitcher. Short stop plays between second and third. On a bunt you have to
cover third. A lot of balls are hit to shortstop. With third base you run on a bunt.
You and the first basemen will be running for the ball make sure not to run into
them. Whenever a ball is hit, run to your base and touch one foot on the base so
it is faster to get them out. That’s how you field the infield!
