Mom's Million Dollar Baby

Bubbly, shy, smart, dancer, energetic and one expensive child. I want to go to Joffrey Ballet School or Juilliard Performing Arts School. Although Dance is not a career goal it has been a passion of mine since I was 2. I want to become an allergist for kids like me. My full name is Ashlyn Christine Roberts. I was born to Shari and Chad Roberts. I have one crazy little sister, Paytyn Roberts. As a small child and infant they thought that I had probable cancer, the one that had no cure. Every day as a small infant I got poked at with testing and almost every weekend we would be at some doctors office.I had a dermatologist, hematologist, oncologist, gastroenterologist, and an allergist all by the age of 8 weeks. No one had the answer they just kept saying the same thing.
Finally my parents found the miracle worker that is a  familiar face throughout my childhood. His name is Doctor James Baker the allergist  out of Lake Oswego, OR. He finally reassured my parents that it was not cancer that it was just a severe milk allergy. At such a young age I was a scientist dream child. By the age of 1 ½ I was diagnosed with a deadly nut, bean and berry allergy.I am allergic to almost everything that people  use on a daily basis also including some makeup, food, lotions, perfume, etc..  My mom growing up told me I was her million dollar child.
All through my elementary school years my parents and grandparents had to come eat lunch with me. With eating in my room it really made me the shy, and humble. I am really thankful that I had those few friends that no matter what all the teachers said they came and ate with me and my family. I feel that I am lucky that I have such a supportive family and friends through all the medical procedures and all the traveling throughout of my life so far. My family has always been so protective of me and I have lived in a little bubble of safety for so long.
I have seen many things that other kids haven’t seen through dance. For example I have met the Portland Trail Blazers, been to Disneyland 7 times in the last 6 years, been to Las Vegas. My first REAL school cafeteria experience was when I was in 3rd grade. I was lucky to have a peanut free table in the cafeteria. In 4th grade was a hard year for me. In 4th grade is when my parents got a divorce. I was eight and my sister was barely one. My mom has sole custody of us.
5th grade was a turning point in the school because they gave us assigned seating and my seat was not at the peanut free table because they took it down and almost all the kids at my table had pb&j for lunch every  day. As I have grown up the word peanuts or anything along that line has scared me to the point I am nauseous. Growing up, I have  learned that my allergy isn't something to be ashamed of. It is something that makes me who I am. Everyone has that thing that when someone mentions your name they have that one thing they remember about you. Mine is that I am allergic to  almost everything.  I feel that I can contribute photography and photo editing to publications this year. I can’t wait to work with an amazing staff of hard workers! :)
