Keeping Organized

Do you ever wonder how some people can walk down the hall without their binder exploding like a ticking time bomb? Some students have a hard time keeping organized at school. It is easy to get messy and out of order, and most of the time it is pretty hard to get re-organized. The first thing you should do to keep organized is choose the proper supplies for the job. Things you will definitely need to organize your binder are folders for every class or period you will have work to keep in, a package of notebook paper, a three-ring pencil pouch or holder for extra things, and a nearby trash can for things you no longer need. Make sure you have enough time so you don’t feel rushed. When you feel rushed, things won’t get as organized as if you could take your time.

Once you have your supplies and enough time to do the job right, get settled with your old mess and begin cleaning. Make a pile of “trash” and put the things or assignments you no longer need. You should also make a “keep” pile where you put unfinished work or notes that need to be kept. Recycle the stack that is no longer needed and put the other one off to the side. Then take out any pencils, highlighters, erasers, rulers, calculators, etcetera from your binder. If you bought a new binder, open it up or take everything out of the old one.

The last step is getting everything into your binder. The easiest thing to do is put in the folders with your first class at the beginning. Then put your work from the “keep” pile into the folders. Make sure that the work is in the proper folders based on class. Then take the pack of paper and put it on the three rings before the folders. Next put any notebooks for classes on the rings. Last attach the pencil pouch and put all of your needed supplies inside. After this you will have an organized binder that is easy to keep clean and easy to navigate.
