Poetry Day

Pic
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
and before the street begins,
and there the grass grows soft and white,
and there the sun burns crimson bright,
and there the moon-bird rests from his flight
to cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
and the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
we shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow
and watch where the chalk-white arrows go
to the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
and we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
for the children, they mark, and the children, they know,
the place where the sidewalk ends.
-"Where the Sidewalk Ends" -Shel Silverstein

My birthday is October 2. When I researched national holidays that occur on my birthday, I was delighted to see that National Poetry Day was one. I am a poet. I express my feelings and ideas through poetry.
Poetry day should be celebrated by all living beings. Artists, authors, protesters, survivors, children, mothers, fathers, those who are passionate about something, and just everyone. Poetry is a form of art. There are over 55 different types of poetry. Writing poetry is like an exorcism for me; it cleanses my soul. When I write, I don't hold back. Poetry is the most expressive form of art.

Poetry is not just about feelings. It’s about raising awareness, having a voice. Writing poems allows people to know who you are and what you are for. Poets have changed history with moving poems. Poetry can portray what the author is going through. It can also portray what is currently happening in their society. Whether or not you are creative with writing, poetry is also enjoyable to read. If you’re down or on top of the world, poetry can inspire you to do anything.
