June 24th you won't be seeing me at all! This is national peanut butter day. I had a feeling that my allergies came by a consequence but, wasn't really sure how much of a consequence it really was. Ironic right… being allergic to that butter and all. Have you ever wondered how they got Mr. Ed to talk? Peanut butter! We're with Mr. Ed who can resist lip-smacking when this delectable spread is involved? Oh yeah Me of course. Some people find this lip smacking treat quite annoying to listen to or deadly depending on how you look at it.
This day as much as I might hate it has some awesome history to go with it. June 24th is made national peanut butter day because on June 24th, George Bayle, a St. Louis snack food maker, started making peanut butter in the 1890s. For many years, manufacturers struggled with the oil separating from the grainy solids of the peanut butter. In 1923 Heinz became the first company to make the peanuts into the spreadable butter we know and love or hate today. Before long peanut butter was a classic American food.
Did you know that it takes 550 peanuts to make a 12 ounce jar of peanut butter. That a lot of nuttiness smashed into one small jar. There are enough peanuts in one acre to make 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches. The spreadable butter has a distinct smell to it. Have you ever actually wondered what is that smell when peanut butter is around? It is actually the mold that grows on the peanut. Gross right! This might be the worst day that I can think of being 2 days from my birthday. Luckily I don’t have to celebrate this oh so “lovely day”. When I was younger I got introduced to a book series called “Alexander the Elephant who couldn't eat peanuts”. This helped me cope with everything that was going on. Every year on National peanut butter day I read that to my little sister. I will carry this tradition for as long as I have that book.. Happy Lip smacking and oh so gooey june 24th.
