Bears are classified as caniforms
or dog like carnivores. Despite the vast population of bears, there are
only eight species exist. The Giant Panda, which feeds on bamboo and
lives in Asia. The sun bear, which is the smallest of the bear family is
easy to spot with its black fur and crescent shaped patch of yellow fur
on its chest. The spectacle bear that inhabits South America’s
Rainforests and loves to eat berries. The sloth bear, that has shaggy
black fur and has adapted to have a gap in their front teeth so its
easier to suck termites in. Polar bears that is the world’s biggest
carnivore, males can weigh more than 800 kilograms! Asiatic bears live
in forested parts of Asia and are sometimes called “moon bears” due to
their crescent shaped white spot on their chest. Black bears, that love
to eat salmon and live mostly in the U.S.. Black bears can actually be
brown, red, or even white! White black bears are called spirit bears.
Brown bears, usually called grizzly bears are much like black bears, but
brown and larger. So next time you are in the mountains or zoo, look
for a bear, but if you see one not in a zoo, you should probably run.
