Stop Bullying At SMS

Personally, I always see people shoving, tripping and even people calling others names because of any possible thing that stands out about them or is different than most people and the people doing this see it as” joking around”  and when I interviewed Lilli Brewer  asking her what the biggest problem in our school is she actually agreed to see the same thing as me, she responded with  “People always pushing down others in the hallways I see that so much in our halls ” which just shows I am not the only one that sees this and the problem with this is that people that do this don’t know how much it is making them feel worse about themselves and they don’t know  if that person they were “just joking around with” is having the worst day ever or the night before they were getting beat or called names by someone , people never really realize all that someone could be going through  and when their fellow classmates do or say little rude things it only makes it their life even harder when it’s all they hear. The first resolution I have to this is  people just trying to be better bystanders, and the second solution is opening or starting a group to stop bullying and help those people who have been victims of bullying.

First of all I think people should try to change and be that person that is known for being there for the people that are a victim of bullying by helping them get through it or standing up for them and trying to get rid of the bullying at school and it’s not only students that could do this but teachers too! It’s like they don’t know how much good impact they could have if the teachers would just talk to that student after class when they can tell somethings wrong with them or even telling someone to quit calling the other kid names. I really enjoyed the depth of when I interviewed Tiawna Terkelson Sunridge 8th grade student told me “ People need better attitudes, just don’t sit there and laugh when someone makes a joke about someone’s weight or how they look..” She also said that counselors and teachers should try to make more of an impact on bullying.

Secondly it would be really beneficial to open or begin a club to deal with bullying. Jon Swaggart gave me the idea for this solution he said to me when I interviewed him " there's too much bullying, our school should start a club to end it." The people in it could make plans to help those that have been a victim of bullying and also plans to get others to help stop bullying throughout the school It's crazy how much someone can make an impact.

So many people that have been interviewed for this class have said that bullying is a big problem and that should not be what we should be hearing that's way too many people saying this and that's obviously not good. Everyone including students, teachers, and other staff should really try to make an impact on this problem. They could talk to the principal about starting an anti-bullying club or other little things that will really help out. By doing all these little things it will pass on a good word about our school to other places and schools and make the little 5th graders be more excited to come here knowing that there is little bullying.
