Say No to Drugs

There are a lot of problems at our school today like, no air conditioning, bad grades, and bullying that our SMS students are facing, but I believe one of the biggest problems are kids using illegal products that aren’t made for adolescents like hookah. I understand that kids want to be cool and fit in by doing things that their friends are doing, but you really shouldn’t try things that can harm you and your body. This could be fixed by having a news article put in the paper about these specific problems with hookah and other similar things at our school, and we could even stricken our in class rules more to where kids can’t just leave right in the middle of class.

I think that in order to try and limit the use of things like hookah at our school, publishing an article in the public newspaper could really help. This is a big problem at SMS because more and more kids are doing it to fit in, and are skipping class which results in their grades dropping. Publishing an article could possibly help by having more parents that are oblivious to their children’s lives start paying more attention and trying harder to put a stop to it. I interviewed many Sunridge students asking them what they believed to be the biggest problem facing SMS kids today, and eighth grader Nic had replied with, “I think that the biggest problem facing our SMS students today would have to be the irresponsible use of products not made for minors like hookah.”

Next, I also think that if teachers were to stricken our in class rules more it might help and restrain kids from falling into bad habits. Kids are smoking and abusing products that are not made for minors at school and in the bathrooms just to be “cool” and eventually they just keep doing it. I think that if teachers stricken our school rules it could put a stop to kids leaving in the middle of class to meet their friends in the bathroom and do irresponsible things. I also asked Bryson, one of our 7th grade students what he had believed to be the biggest conflict at our school, and he said, “There are a ton of problems that all of our SMS students are facing, and not all of them can be solved.. But I would have to say the biggest problem that I have noticed is our friends and acquaintances smoking hookah and putting things in their bodies that don’t belong.”

As you can see, many of our sunridge students believe that the use of products not made for minors is a big concern at our school and should be stopped. Seventh grader Lauren had stated, “The use of products not made for adolescents is a very big problem at our school. This should be stopped so that more and more students don’t break under the pure pressure and try it “just once” so that they can fit in with everyone else. If our school were to print an article in the newspaper, it might open more eyes of parents and they might try and prevent it, also if our principal and staff vote yes to strickening our in class rules more to where we can’t just leave during class it might also put a significant stop to the use of things that are not made for our bodies.
