1-on-1 Learning

Pencils, paper, the smell of lemon in the air. You look up at the board but don’t understand what the teacher is telling the class. You want to raise your hand but don’t want to interrupt. Instead, you do nothing and come to school with no work done without even bothering to ask your teacher for help. Some may say that interaction with teachers isn’t necessary unless you pay attention but, solutions to this problem can be from tutors, and a link on the school webpage.

Firstly, tutors may not be the first thought that would come to your mind. For students who have a tough time going to a teacher and asking for a re-explanation, this is the perfect choice. Tutors are private teachers who teach individuals or small groups about a certain subject.  Whether it’s math or science, they’ll help you with your work outside of school. According to Xavier he states, “Bad grades are a problem at SMS. I think tutors would help fix it.”
Although Xavier is only a 6th grader here, he’s seen this problem more than once.
Secondly, adding a link to the school webpage is certainly a good idea. For teachers, all they would have to do is go into the school webpage and put the directions to the assignment and maybe a short little video explaining the steps. Stated by Kyra she says, “An online page where students can connect to teachers easily such as Skype or an additional part to the school website. Who can help fix this is the school district and staff and students.” Also, Kyra is another 6th grader who hasn’t been here long, but long enough to see grades drop.
Ultimately, interaction with teachers is a very important foundation for the students and teachers. Without the interaction of teachers, the student won’t learn anything new and can’t mentally do the work assigned. Since SMS is a large school and are assigned homework a lot, staff and the school district should upload a link to their webpage and parents/students should invest into a tutor if everything else goes wrong. This problem will affect students in the future because they won’t be as capable to achieve their dreams in the approaching years of their lives.
