The History of "Lincoln"

Lincoln isn’t just a name but a history. The name Lincoln means “lake colony” according to Old English origin. Lincoln is also the name of an early Roman settlement. Furthermore, the name was made even more famous by football player Lincoln Kennedy, who played for the Seattle Seahawks, and Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth president of the United States. The name Lincoln was derived from the Welsh element “lynn” meaning lake or pool. Also it can come from Latin terms meaning “colonia” meaning colony. Possible variations, or as we like to call nicknames, for the name Lincoln are Link, spelled with a “k”, or Linc, spelled with a “c”. In Celtic terms, the name Lincoln means “from the settlement by the pool”. The English, after invading Ireland, began using the name for male children. It is said that people with this name are excellent at analyzing, understanding, and learning. They tend to be mystics, philosophers, scholars, and teachers. Because they live so much in the mind, they are known to be quiet and introspective. When presented with issues, they will see the larger picture of the problem. Their solitary thoughtfulness, analysis of people, and world events may make them seem aloof, and sometimes even melancholy. 2011 is the most popular year in history for the name Lincoln, topping out at a rating of 178 out of 1000 most popular boy names. In all, I think Lincoln is a pretty cool name and should be carried on through the ages.
