Teamwork, physical ability, mental toughness, and coordination are 5 key traits that define a softball player. Softball originated in the united states. Since 1887 when a reporter from chicago participated in the first game of softball it has been a well known relative of Americas past time known as baseball. America has always been quite successful with its inventions, but when softball was created it was not popular at all. Softball consists of 9 players on a field, 4 bases, an infield, outfield, pitcher, and catcher. The main purpose of softball is to be thrown a ball, you then hit it, and are trying to make it to the home base. Whichever team makes it to home base the most in the innings given wins the game. In 1895 softball was known as kitten ball, and was so Ill respected it became known as a woman's sport. Instead of being played with a glove it was played with a specialised boxing glove, and a broom handle. Since then softball has rapidly grown and became a sport known world wide. There is no greater feeling then standing at home plate anxiously anticipating the pitchers pitch, swinging, and getting a great hit. Softball has always been and always will be my favourite sport, it is something I look forward to teaching my children yet to come.
